Yohji Yamamoto

Yukihiro Takahashi drummed and sang in Yellow Magic Orchestra, and from the late 1980s he made the collection music for Yohji Yamamoto’s Paris shows. In March 1992 the two of them founded a company together with Nobuyuki Takahashi and Shinichi Tanaka; a year later it opened a studio and a label, Consipio Records. This album gathers the show music he wrote in the mid-1990s. Nippon Columbia reissued it on 23 June 2021, remastered by Yoshinori Sunahara. Takahashi died in January 2023.

The thirteen tracks carry PA-TO labels spanning A through S, with some letters grouped; pa-to means part. Columbia calls the record unusually painterly for Takahashi: a tense opening keeps layering until a world stands up like a picture. The men’s line got its own record, THE SHOW VOL.4, written by The Beatniks, Takahashi with Keiichi Suzuki.
