Togetherness

London · January 2022

The Autumn/Winter 2022 collection took its name and its shape from Don Cherry and the artist Moki Cherry, who ran organic music sessions out of a farmhouse in rural Sweden through the 1970s. Grace Wales Bonner then turned the name into a live series. The first night was 21 June 2024 at the Hôtel Le Marois in Paris, on Fête de la Musique, with La Fève, Etran de L’Aïr, Mansur Brown, Ibou Calebasse and a set from Sarz. The second was at the Guggenheim on 3 May 2025, alongside Rashid Johnson’s retrospective, with Amaarae, keiyaA, Navy Blue and Fireboy DML.

The playlist runs two hours and twenty minutes across twenty-eight tracks. It opens on Don Cherry with Naná Vasconcelos playing North Brazilian Ceremonial Hymn, then moves through Kahil El’Zabar, Nala Sinephro, Hailu Mergia, Miles Davis, Dudu Pukwana, cktrl, Duval Timothy and Stevie Wonder. Wales Bonner describes her order plainly: soundtrack first, collection after.
