JOYCE SOUNDS

Hong Kong · October 4, 2020

JOYCE, the Hong Kong retailer, started JOYCE SOUNDS on 29 September 2020 by asking designers to go through their archives and hand over the music behind the work. Marine Serre opened it, Rick Owens came two days later, Thom Browne on 4 October, Chitose Abe of sacai on the 7th. Yohji Yamamoto, Ambush, Craig Green and Richard Quinn followed. The series now runs to forty-four playlists and a podcast.

The forty-four tracks include several lifted straight from his runways: Nino Rota’s Ecclesiastical Fashion Show from Fellini’s Roma, Morricone’s Gabriel’s Oboe and Whitney Houston singing the Star Spangled Banner at Super Bowl XXV. JOYCE reads the last as a nod to the red, white and blue grosgrain on every Browne jacket. The rest ranges through Björk, Streisand, Mahler, the Carpenters, Kate Bush, Philip Glass, Sakamoto and Dolly Parton.
