Comme des Garçons
Trading Museum Comme des Garçons
Tokyo · January 2010
Rei Kawakubo opened Trading Museum Comme des Garçons in the Gyre building in Omotesando in 2010. She designed it to put commerce and exhibition in the same room, so buying was not the only reason to visit. A second location operates in Midtown Akasaka. The music comes from Tokyo sound director Setsuya Kurotaki. Since 2021 he has handled sound production and direction for Comme des Garçons stores in Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto and Fukuoka; he also scored Dover Street Market Ginza’s tenth anniversary.
The store playlist is long enough that Spotify stops counting at a hundred. It opens with four Nicolie Binara tracks: koh, castle in the air, birthstone of july and mother dawn. Then John Cooper Clarke turns up, reading Twat live.
